The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a couple at NTCH Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspect, identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, was arrested on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

In a press statement dated November 2, 2026, the police said the arrest followed an earlier announcement by the Accra Regional Police Command on October 30 regarding the murder of Irene Atuguba, 47, and her husband, George Atuguba, 57.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident allegedly stemmed from a financial dispute involving the deceased husband and the suspect, who is said to have borrowed GH¢500,000 but failed to repay the money.

According to the police, an intelligence-led operation led officers to the suspect’s hideout, where he was successfully apprehended.

During the operation, police retrieved a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been retained as exhibits.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations into the case are ongoing.
