The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspects in an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation at Okaishie Drug Lane in Accra, targeting the suspected sale and distribution of narcotic substances and unregulated pharmaceutical products.

The operation was conducted on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of efforts to clamp down on the illegal trade in substances that could pose risks to public health and safety.

The suspects have been identified as Jeremiah Chinedu, 33; Godsway Dabla, 29; Nwaiyo Charles, 64; Nwachukwu Kanawu, 41; John Divine; Gideon Edioke, 29; Ikechukwu Paul, 60; and Okwesibieze Precious, 23.

According to the information released by the Police, items retrieved during the operation included suspected Tramadol tablets in 225mg and 250mg strengths, Rohypnol tablets, codeine-containing products, Benyling products and other assorted pharmaceutical substances.
The eight suspects are currently in police custody, while the items retrieved have been secured to support ongoing investigations.

The operation forms part of the Police Service’s broader efforts to combat the illicit trade in narcotic substances and pharmaceutical products that are sold or distributed outside the appropriate regulatory framework.

The illegal use and distribution of certain medicines can expose individuals and communities to serious health risks, particularly when the products are misused, improperly prescribed or obtained from unregulated sources.
The Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling the trade in such substances to protect public health and safety.
Investigations into the case are ongoing. The suspects’ arrest does not, in itself, establish their guilt, and the allegations against them remain subject to the due process of the law.
