Police arrest and interdict officer over death of 23-year-old on tema motorway

The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo on the Tema Motorway.

The development follows initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on August 27, 2026.

According to the Police Service, the officer is currently in custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.

The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been tasked with intensifying investigations into the incident, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the conduct of the officer.

The Police Service said the investigation is intended to establish the facts surrounding the incident and determine whether any criminal or professional misconduct occurred.

The development comes amid public concern following the circulation of the video on social media, with calls for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.

The Service has also reiterated its commitment to accountability and professional standards, particularly in cases involving its personnel.
