Police Have Abandoned Galamsey Fight Says Erastus Asare Donkor

Story By: Deborah Adorsu

Award winning environmental journalist Erastus Asare Donkor has alleged that the Ghana Police Service has totally detached itself from the fight against illegal mining.

According to Mr Asare Donkor in an interview, officers serving in Galamasey communities are holding back from law enforcement due to worries about transfer threats and pressure from politically exposed persons.

The journalist, well known for his consistent advocacy against environmental destruction said the development has undermine gains made in 2025.

Following claims of police disengagement and criticism leading to the brief withdrawal of the IGP’s taskforce over alleged extortion, illegal miners are gradually resurfacing in previously secured.

He called on the Inspector General of Police and government to protect officers willing to fight the Canker.
