The Upper East Regional Police Command has re-arrested a 20-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Muntari Munumi, and retrieved an M16 A2 assault rifle, three live rounds of ammunition and five expended empty shells at Sapeliga.
According to a press release issued on October 22, 2026, preliminary investigations indicate that two victims, whose names have been withheld, were returning home from Bazua after work when they were attacked by an armed suspect near Sapeliga Junction in Kobore.

The suspect allegedly robbed the victims of their Royal motorbike, three mobile phones and cash amounting to GH¢1,820.
The victims reportedly fought back and managed to seize the weapon from the suspect after he fired several rounds but missed his targets.
They subsequently contacted the Googo Neighbourhood Watch Committee, which mobilised its members to arrest the suspect and hand him over to the police along with the weapon.

The police said the suspect later disclosed the identities of his alleged accomplices and the source of the weapons used in their operations. He also offered to lead officers to arrest the individuals.
However, while being transported, the suspect reportedly complained of dizziness and suddenly lost consciousness. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Upper East Regional Police Command says efforts are underway to arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices to face the law.
The Command has commended the victims, the Googo Neighbourhood Watch Committee and the Chief of Sapeliga for their support and cooperation in the operation.
