President Mahama leaves Accra for 81st UN General Assembly in New York

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, where he will participate in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
This year’s General Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All,” bringing together world leaders to deliberate on global challenges and opportunities for international cooperation.
As part of his engagements, President Mahama will host two major side events focusing on Africa’s renewal and historical justice.
On Monday, September 21, 2026, the President will host a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, under the theme “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.” The event is expected to bring together world leaders and key stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to improving global development cooperation.
On Wednesday, September 23, President Mahama will host another side event on the “Next Steps”, focusing on “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”
President Mahama is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s official statement during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24.
Beyond the main UN programme, the President is expected to hold a series of bilateral and business engagements aimed at strengthening Ghana’s international partnerships, attracting investment and deepening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora.
His engagements will include meetings with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and executives of multinational companies.
As part of efforts to promote Ghana as a preferred destination for business and investment, President Mahama will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and participate in a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
He is also scheduled to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and participate in the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, September 25, President Mahama will host a Town Hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in New York, where he is expected to provide updates on his vision and programmes for national development.
The President is accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from the Presidency and other government officials.
