PURC urges consumers to use tariff reckoner to verify electricity bills

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has urged electricity consumers to use its Tariff Reckoner software to check the accuracy of their electricity bills and report any discrepancies for investigation.
The digital tool allows consumers to calculate their electricity charges based on their monthly consumption and compare the results with bills issued by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, October 21, the Executive Secretary of the PURC, Dr. Shafic Suleman, encouraged consumers to take advantage of the software to determine whether they are being charged correctly for the electricity they use.
He explained that the Tariff Reckoner was developed to empower consumers to independently verify their bills rather than rely solely on the amounts charged by ECG.
According to Dr. Shafic, the software is available on the PURC’s official website, and the Commission has been educating the public on how to access and use the platform.
He noted that consumers who discover differences between the amount calculated by the software and the amount stated on their electricity bills can lodge a complaint with the Commission for further investigation.
The PURC Executive Secretary added that consumers who remain uncertain about their bills can also submit formal complaints, after which the Commission will guide them through the process of verifying the charges.
The initiative forms part of efforts to promote transparency, strengthen consumer protection, and ensure that electricity customers pay the appropriate amount for the power they consume.
The PURC is therefore encouraging consumers to become more involved in checking their electricity bills and to seek clarification whenever they suspect an error.
Consumers can visit the PURC’s official website to access the Tariff Reckoner and learn more about how to verify their electricity charges.
