Road Users Raise Concerns Over TraffiTech Implementation Ahead Of Enforcement

Road users and consumer groups have raised concerns over the implementation of the automated traffic enforcement system TraffiTech GH which was scheduled for full enforcement on October 1 2026.

Leading the calls is research and public policy think tank CUTS International Accra which has urged government to delay enforcement until traffic lights road markings and road signs at designated camera locations are inspected and repaired.

In a statement issued on September 28, CUTS said while it supports technology to improve compliance and reduce road crashes, enforcement must be based on clear and visible road infrastructure.

Professional driving instructors and transport operators have also questioned how cameras will determine violations where markings are not visible or where signals are faulty.

Meanwhile the Motor Traffic and Transport Department MTTD has disclosed that over 10,000 motorists were cautioned for speeding during the trial phase after the system was launched by IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno on September 15 2026.

In a new development the Police Service in a press release dated September 29 2026 has pushed the nationwide rollout to November 1 2026 to allow for more extensive public education on how Electronic Notices of Violation will be issued.
