Sarkodie Challenges Wealthy Ghanaians to Invest More in Local Music Talent

Story By: Zainab Ali

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has called on wealthy individuals and business executives to invest more in the country’s music industry, arguing that local musicians need stronger financial backing to compete internationally.

Speaking on the When We Sit podcast, the rapper explained that Ghanaian artistes often struggle to attract investors, even when they present business plans. He contrasted this with what he sees as a greater willingness among some Nigerian investors to take financial risks on promising musicians.

Sarkodie also discussed the considerable resources required to organise major international concerts, pointing to performances at venues such as London’s O2 Arena as examples of the investment needed to expand an artiste’s reach.

His comments highlight a wider conversation about the business side of Ghanaian entertainment. While talent and creativity remain essential, artistes also need funding for promotion, production, touring and international marketing.

Increased private-sector investment could create opportunities for musicians, producers, event organisers and other professionals in the creative economy. Sarkodie’s appeal challenges Ghanaian businesses to consider music not only as entertainment but also as a potential commercial investment.
