SHS Placement Challenges Leave Parents And Students Seeking Answers

Parents and prospective Senior High School students are seeking answers over ongoing challenges surrounding the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System.

The issue has generated frustration among some parents and candidates, with concerns ranging from placement outcomes to the availability of suitable schools.

Reports on Wednesday, September 9, indicate that some parents and candidates continue to seek assistance and clarification regarding the placement process.

The situation has placed renewed attention on the National School Placement Resolution Centre, where parents and students have been seeking solutions to placement-related concerns.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education explained that adjustments to the placement timeline were necessary to allow additional time for the completion and uploading of student data onto the relevant platforms.

The placement process is particularly important for families because students who complete the Basic Education Certificate Examination rely on the system to secure places in Senior High Schools across the country.

Meanwhile, concerns have also emerged over students who have not been placed in public second-cycle institutions.

The Conference of Heads of Private Second-Cycle Schools has assured the affected candidates that private schools remain available as an alternative for students who have not secured placement in public SHSs.

For many parents, however, the immediate priority remains obtaining clarity on their children’s placement and ensuring that no qualified student is left without an opportunity to continue their education.

Authorities are therefore expected to continue addressing the concerns emerging from the 2026 placement exercise.
