Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has donated GH¢100,000 to the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, to support its preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

The musician made the donation on Friday, October 23, during a visit to the team’s training session at Mensah Sarbah Park on the University of Ghana campus in Accra. He used the opportunity to encourage the players to remain focused, believe in their abilities and work towards achieving success at the international competition.

Stonebwoy explained that the contribution was from him and the Burna Boy Music Group. He also called on the government, corporate institutions and the general public to provide additional financial and logistical support to help the team prepare adequately for the tournament.

Beyond the financial contribution, the artiste emphasised the importance of treating persons with disabilities with dignity and respect. He condemned the ridicule of people living with disabilities and urged the public to recognise their abilities rather than focus on their physical challenges.

Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq for the tournament, scheduled to take place from November 13 to 22 in Mexico. The Black Challenge will be aiming to translate its continental achievements into a maiden world title.

The team has previously won the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2024 and secured gold at the 2023 African Para Games.

Stonebwoy’s contribution has brought renewed attention to the team’s preparations and the importance of supporting athletes who represent Ghana on the international stage. His gesture also highlights how entertainers can use their influence and resources to support sports development and promote inclusion.
