Teacher Unions Meet Government Today Over Nationwide Strike

Ghana’s three major pre-tertiary teacher unions are expected to meet government representatives today, Monday, September 28, as efforts continue to resolve issues that led to their nationwide strike.

The National Association of Graduate Teachers, the Ghana National Association of Teachers and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana have raised concerns including outstanding promotion arrears and delays in negotiations over their conditions of service.

The unions had declared industrial action and subsequently agreed to engage government in discussions aimed at finding a resolution to the outstanding matters.

NAGRAT President Jacob Anaba has indicated that the unions are prepared to participate in the meeting if it provides a genuine opportunity to address their concerns.

The outcome of today’s discussions could determine the next steps regarding the industrial action, with teachers seeking progress on the issues they say remain unresolved.
