Tema Artisans Protest Alleged Sale of Land Near Cocoa Processing Company

Story By: Deborah Adorsu

Artisans occupying a parcel of land adjacent to the Cocoa Processing Company Limited in Tema have staged a protest against the alleged sale of the land to a Chinese national and attempts to evict them without prior notice.

The artisans, who include mechanics, welders and other small scale operators, said they occupied and worked on the land for about 26 years.

Lead convenor of the group, Emmanuel Abdul Salam, said they were taken by surprise when persons claiming to have acquired the land attempted to eject them from the site.

According to him, the case is currently before the court therefore any attempt to evict them would be unlawful.

Mr Abdul Salam is appealing to government and relevant state authorities to intervene to prevent their eviction.

The artisans are calling for a halt to all activities on the disputed land until the court determines the matter.
