The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being involved in the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila, and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam, were arrested on September 29, 2026, at different locations in Sang in the Mion District.

According to preliminary police investigations, the victim was abducted on September 25 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence. The kidnappers later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.

However, the victim managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers in Sambu, who helped him get medical attention at a local clinic.

Police later visited the clinic and engaged the victim, who told them that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before escaping.

The victim subsequently identified the three arrested suspects from their photographs. Police investigations have also reportedly linked the suspects to other robbery incidents in the area.

The three suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the kidnapping.
