Titus Glover Calls For Reinstatement of traders at La Pleasure Beach

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Titus Glover has called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and reinstate traders and workers whose structures were demolished at La Pleasure Beach.
Mr Glover made the appeal on Thursday, October 29, 2026 during a demonstration organized by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front dubbed “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo” to protest the demolition exercise and its impact on livelihoods.
Addressing the demonstrators at La, Mr Glover said the youth of Ga-Dangme have had enough and pleaded with the President to protect the rights and livelihoods of the affected Ga-Dangme people.
The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026 following a request by Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). SSNIT said it sought intervention to address unlawful occupation and unauthorised activities along its beachfront, citing security, sanitation and environmental concerns.
Some affected traders and workers who joined the protest said the exercise has disrupted their businesses and cut off their main source of income.
According to figures cited by the Coalition of La Associations (COLA) from the Ghana Tourism Federation, about 85 businesses were affected at La Pleasure Beach alone, putting approximately 4,000 jobs at risk, with women accounting for a significant proportion.
In a symbolic act during the protest, Mr Glover poured libation to invoke traditional deities to intervene in the matter.
The protest, which was also joined by Greater Accra NPP Regional Chairman Dr Bernard Oko Boye, comes after COLA gave government a 7-day ultimatum to respond to demands for compensation for victims of demolitions at both Laboma Beach Resort on September 13 and La Pleasure Beach on October 2.
The Coalition warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to lawful protests, petitions to the Presidency and Parliament, and possible legal action.
Meanwhile, SSNIT’s Director-General has indicated that the Trust intends to document displaced traders and provide market space and some hotel jobs before Christmas.
