Two suspects arrested over kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper in Kumasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi in October 2025.
The arrests followed a sustained intelligence-led operation by the Police.
According to the Police, on October 16, 2025, some individuals who claimed to be brothers of the deceased took Toure to the Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries. They reportedly told medical authorities that he had been involved in an accident.
However, the goalkeeper was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspects subsequently deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo in Kumasi and allegedly fled the area.
The Police identified the arrested suspects as 32-year-old Salifu Walid, a Nigerien national, and 24-year-old Aziz Wadrago Mane, a Burkinabe national. They were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are allegedly members of a four-member group suspected of masterminding Toure’s kidnapping and murder.
The Police said the group allegedly posed as football scout agents and used online networks to lure unsuspecting individuals into Ghana.
During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted their involvement and provided information about their alleged roles in luring Toure into Ghana as part of a scheme to defraud him.
Police investigations are continuing, while efforts have been intensified to arrest two other suspects identified as Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry. The two are currently on the run and are believed by investigators to have played key roles in the group’s activities.
The two arrested suspects remain in Police custody and are expected to be processed for court.
The Police have not indicated when the other suspects will be arrested, but efforts to locate them are ongoing.
